Position Description:

JOB TITLE:Automotive Engineer - Junior

Position Summary:

The Automotive Engineer works under the direct supervision of the Program Manager. Conducts engineering design, development and analysis of components, fixtures and instrumentation test elements. Monitors and provides technical reports concerning assigned tasks. Understands the procedures and requirements necessary to accomplish complex engineering, technological and analytical advanced and special projects.

Essential Functions:

  1. Researches background data on assignments in order to support testing procedures, test phases, deviations from standard techniques, etc.
  2. Prepares test plans identifying type of test to be conducted, facilities required, proposed schedule, resource allocation, etc.
  3. Defines and oversees installation of instrumentation packages.
  4. Completes field tests to define the performance characteristics of the vehicle taking into consideration the effects and relationships of systems and components.
  5. Works with mechanics, technicians, equipment operators and other personnel to complete tests on time and on budget.
  6. Analyzes technical data and clearly communicates results to project managers and/or customers through technical reports, briefings, or other medium.
  7. Creates, modifies, and reviews CAD 3D models and drawing packages.
  8. Supports FMEA analysis on failures encountered and suggests modifications and design change to any component.
  9. Contacts engineering, administrative and executive personnel to discuss and explain engineering and company procedural requirements, give information concerning test or vehicle performance, solve minor conflicts, or secure additional information regarding test.
  10. Prepares preliminary sketches, diagrams and specifications for new types or changes in existing facilities or equipment.
  11. Provides support to other engineers and program managers.
  12. Relates well with employees and customers at all levels and at all times in a professional and personable manner.

Secondary Functions:

  1. Assists in preparing, writing, and reviewing technical proposals.
  2. Attends and represents company at trade and industry shows.
  3. Assists in special projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field; and one (1) year of experience in a related engineering field. Mechanical Engineer preferred.
  2. Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week.
  3. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid NV driver's license.
  4. Must have fundamental systems level automotive knowledge.
  5. Must possess strong computer skills; specifically MS Office applications.
  6. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, expressing ideas clearly and actively listening to thoughts and ideas of others.
  7. Must be able to rapidly learn and apply new measurement techniques and associated data acquisition software.
  8. Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  9. Must have excellent organization and time management skills.
  10. Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and rapidly changing business conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience in a test environment.
  2. Experience with Matlab
  3. Experience with CAD/CAE software.
